Most gardeners understand that healthy plants have increased immunity from pests, disease, fungus and other plant maladies. Major benefits of having healthy, vigorous plants are not only fuller foliage and increases in flowering and fruiting, but also they are actually less expensive to maintain in the long run by eliminating need for expensive pesticides and fungicides as well as the benefits that NOT using those chemical products has on our environment.
Some information is beginning to come to light about red lava rock that I was previously unaware of.... Did you know that experimental testing is being conducted regarding red lava rock and paramagnetism. What is paramagnetism you may be asking... Paramagnetism is a force found naturally in rocks (similar to magnetism) which has shown increased plant vitality in some studies. This force could be considered in some ways as an energy force for the soil! Some rock compounds are found to contain higher levels than others, with lava rock and some forms of granite containing higher measures of this paramagnetic force.
Experiments so far have shown amazing results in the increased growth and vitality to the extent that they are actually better able to fend off disease and sickness and were found to be stronger and healthier.
Now my question is this..... Is the answer actually the chemical properties in the rock creating this force?? or is it the basic design makeup (porous) which allows the rock to trap water and moisture along with nutrients for a longer period of time while allowing excess water to drain away from the roots, benefiting the plant on a more contstant basis, thereby creating a healthier plant, thereby less resistant to pest and disease?
Another key factor of red lava rock I have found myself to be true is the red lava rock both used in the soil mix or as a top soil cover does help to maintain soil humidity without attracting pests.
Small particle size (approximately 1/8" - 1/4") is the base for our mix of Professional Bonsai Soil Mixes. Red Lava rock provides several neccessities such as moisture retention while allowing excess water to drain away from the roots, helping to avoid root rot. Tiny porous cavities provide moisture, air and a surface for small fibrous roots to attach to.
Red Lava rock is lightweight, permanent, won't disolve or rot away, won't blow away in natural conditions and does not affect the composition of the soil mix.
Paramagnetism and its role in agriculture was first discovered by Dr. Philip S. Callahan. Mr. Callahan has written a book on his findings entitled: Paragnetism - Rediscovering natures secret force of growth. Interest in paramagnetism has been growing ever since! |
