Styles / Pruning / Training: The most used style for bonsai is the banyan style. Aerial roots can be produced in humid conditions. A dense, thick canopy is desired. Leaf size reduces dramatically with maintenance. The schefflera will take severe root and branch pruning and recover quickly. A small amount of die-back when trimming is expected, it is recommended not to use concave cutters. The delicate branches can be wired with caution as they are quick growing. Defoliating in early spring will improve ramification and reduce leaf size.
Light / Water requirements: When using a well draining soil you must water regularly. Scheffleras will take light to heavy watering. The Schefflera will do well in lighting from full sun to partial shade and indoors in bright light conditions.
Propagation: Easily grown from cuttings or collect large specimens in warm weather for better success.
Repotting Special Instructions: Repot when minimum night temperatures are consistently in the high 60's. It is safe to repot the Scheffleras all summer.
Insects and Diseases: Use pesticides with caution, a mild diluted soapy spray is safest. Watch for aphids.
Temperature Requirements: Protect below 40 degrees F.
