Apply the proper fertilizer in the appropriate amounts at the correct time of the season for the optimal result. Bonsai fertilization requirements will change throughout the year. Fertilizers come in a variety of formulas and concentrations. In the Spring you want to encourage vigorous growth, so you will want a fertilizer higher in nitrogen compared to fall. Take into consideration higher nitrogen can cause stronger leaf and shoot growth as well as long internodes. Use a higher amount of potash for more prolific flowering during the budding cycle. It is better to err on the side of less than more.
