Styles / Pruning / Training: Prune your Dwarf Powderpuff during its growing season, spring and summer. The Dwarf Powderpuff may be wired, however it must be done early because older branches become stiff and brittle. It is best to wire only the new growth that has not hardened yet. The bark of the powderpuff is thin and damages easily, so take care when wiring.
Light / Water requirements: The Dwarf Powderpuff is an outdoor plant, prefering full sun. If grown indoors, you must choose a bright sunny location or supplemental lighting would most likey be required. Frost is dangerous to this plant. The Dwarf Powderpuff is not tolerant of salt. Keep the soil evenly moist. Less watering is required during the winter and if kept indoors. The Dwarf Powderpuff enjoys high humidity but will tolerate occasional periods of draught.
Propagation: Easily start cuttings and air-layers, seeds are not as reliable.
Repotting Special Instructions: Repot every two years, in spring, using well draining somewhat sandy and slightly alkaline bonsai soil.
Insects and Diseases: Aphids, caterpillars and mites. These are easily taken care of with insecticide and manual removal.
Temperature Requirements: Frost is dangerous to this plant. Protect below 40 degrees F. This plant can be kept indoors year round if necessary but best results are achieved when placing the plant outdoors in warm weather.
